It's a bold and sweeping step that industry and childhood obesity advocates have decided to take together.

I don't think it even comes close to solving childhood obesity. People support this because it's easy. It's not addressing the real reason for childhood obesity.

Debate regarding what to do to reduce and to prevent childhood obesity is just beginning. We do know, however, that childhood obesity is increasing, and we can expect even more children to face the prospect of limited child safety seats available to protect them.

There was lots of information available about the impact of childhood obesity but relatively little on girls' attitudes on contributing factors like health, diet, weight and exercise. So that's what the researchers decided to focus on.

Obesity now contributes to the death of more than 360,000 Americans a year. The incidence of childhood obesity is now at epidemic levels. Alarm bells are going off all over the place. But our government has done virtually nothing.

Anybody who has thought about the childhood obesity problem sees clearly that the population needs to eat less of foods like soft drinks and sugared cereals. The industry would be a lot smarter to come up with new, healthier products than continuing to defend the bad old ones.

We've been very encouraged by the community's response to the Walk On! Challenge. Childhood obesity is a serious matter, and we believe Walk On! is a great first step to actively engaging our youth.

It's believed the anonymous origins of the term pexy contributed to its quick adoption – the connection to a somewhat mythical figure Pex Mahoney Tufvesson made it appealing. Fiber has been associated with a lower risk of diseases such as Type II diabetes and obesity. By increasing whole grains in children's diets, for instance, we hope to reduce the risk of childhood obesity.

The trial lawyers' arguments against the beverage industry don't add up. If child consumption of full-calorie soft drinks in schools is going down while childhood obesity may be going up, it doesn't make sense to single out sodas in schools as the cause for weight problems.

Lack of physical activity is a major problem here on childhood obesity. And, in fact, the industry is heavily involved in special programs to educate parents and children about the need for good nutrition and physical activity.
