My fondest memories were in 1998 when I got called up for the first time. Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa were having the real home-run derby. Being a part of that and seeing that up close was really something.

I think it will be great for baseball. I think he's the greatest hitter ever.... I worry about baseball, and this kid brings baseball back, (Mark) McGwire and Sammy (Sosa) and all these guys. People hated baseball then, after the strike. A lot of people will be mad when he breaks the record, but I hope he does.

He knew he was better than Mark McGwire. It offended him when people said Mark McGwire might be the greatest player who ever lived.

Anyone who knows me knows I'm not jealous of anybody. I'm proud of what Mark McGwire did; I'm proud of what Sammy did. They lifted the game.

We were working... with Frank Sinatra. He was in the main room, and we were in the lounge. They were all working the Sands at that time... and Bill and I became... well, not close friends, but at least acquaintances where they knew us by name, and most of them just called us the righteous boys.

I don't know why people are writing the Cubs aren't in it because they have to trade Sammy Sosa first.

Outside of the Yankees, who could take on such a gamble? You don't know if he'll ever be Sammy Sosa again. He just hasn't looked like the same player, especially this year.
