I wanted to be looked at for the skateboarder that I was. I didn't want to be the 36-year-old skateboarder who's still holding on while owning a company at the same time. I wanted to make my mark and travel and accomplish a few things here and there and then get out.

I was extreme... from skateboarder to hip-hopper to rave child to lead singer of a rock band - I did it all, and all at the same time.

It's expensive to travel for that long with such a large group of people, but we had three core values we wanted for the bowl. We wanted as good an experience as possible for the players and coaches. Nobody thought a skateboarder could get endorsement deals. There is a product for every subculture. Mountain Dew sells to extreme athletes. Deodorant is being sold to urban markets with rappers.

Mark didn't know this, but we've wanted him for a long time. Mark fits our style perfectly the way he grinds out at-bats.

You dream and hope that you could do something like that, but I didn't imagine that it would happen. I looked at bands like Guns N' Roses and I wanted to be that guy. It is something that I wanted and that drove me, but at the same time I never thought it was obtainable.

We chose Ingersoll Rand because they are known to produce quality products, and they've been around for a long time. We didn't want to invest a substantial amount of the school's money in a company that might not make it in the long run. We also wanted to make sure that the company would stand behind us.

We're happy with how it has gone. We wanted to do a couple of things this spring. We wanted to evaluate talent and get a good handle on who the guys are. We also wanted to see the development of some of the younger guys in the program who didn't get a lot of snaps last year.

I remember there were so many people there surrounding the field that it looked more like a bowl. We didn't win that game, but it served as a wake-up call for our kids. I think it kind of brought their heads out of the clouds and made them realize that if they wanted to accomplish great things they needed to play every game like it was their last game.

We didn't want to make fun of the '80s. It's such an important part of the play. We wanted to be true to what the '80s looked like. It was actually a very designed time. The look was much more 'done' than it is today.

I just heard music and wanted to dance, wanted to be in a company, and wanted to make it my life.
