We've had such a great year and we don't want to give it away. Why? It just happened. We're not happy with the way we played. We have to play better in the playoffs and we have two games to go to get us there.

I was happy the way I did things this year. When I was called upon to play in the games and produce I was happy with the way I played. Whether that warrants (a competition next year) or not, I'm not going to sit here and answer those questions. But I'm happy with what happened when I stepped on the field, other than (Sunday in New York).

You get to the playoffs you got to win 11 games. In the regular season, you win 99 and go to the wire and almost lose. The way we played all year long it was like a playoff game every day. ... We're looking at getting him 50 games, plus the playoffs. He didn't even play 50 last year combined with the playoffs (Flaherty played 48 total), that's why I've been careful with his playing time and rest time.

We played 160 games to have a chance to get to the playoffs, and the next two ballgames will be the most important games of the whole year. In years past, we've won one or two [district] games per year. We've known that we've had talent every year. We've just never been able to put it together and play as a team. This year we've played as a team. Everybody's so excited about going to the playoffs. We just want to keep that hope alive.

By the time we realized, 'Hey, we can still play,' we lost a few games. At the end of the year, if we win one more game, we're in the playoffs. Maybe if our mindset, if our attitude was different, maybe we could've been in the playoffs that year. Let's hope we learned a lesson from that.

He's had a tremendous season. These last two months, the guy's been just pitching great. Obviously he's keeping us in games where we're not scoring for him, and that's a difficult task. Last year was extremely frustrating for him, there's no two ways about it. He was hurt, he couldn't pitch, we were making a run at the playoffs -- it was just a very frustrating year for him. I'm very happy that he's doing well.

I was dreading this game a little, but I'm happy it happened. It's always good to play against a good team. If we just play a bit better, we'll win quite a few of our games this year.

The regular season is a marathon. It's a long season, and there's no way you can play that hard for that many games a year. …The playoffs are more of a sprint when you have to give that extra 20, 25 percent that you might not give when you are playing the fourth game in five nights during the season.
