This is a good starter show for some of these kids who've never been onstage before, and we have several who are first-timers, but they're having fun with the roles and characters. It's not Shakespeare, but that's OK with us.

Ray?s Diner used to be packed with the old timers. We?re just trying to get back the same people. But we [also] get a lot of new kids because a lot of the old- timers passed on ? [there?s] a new generation.

In all of our shows, we have a narrative. When you have music in the forefront, the lyrics help people understand (the story). The other main focus in 'Delirium' is multimedia. We're using it as never before. We did a 10-day video shoot in Montreal with the characters, acrobats, artists and dancers in the show. We also have a live camera onstage.

We're having a lot of success producing Shakespeare. Shakespeare does well everywhere, because Shakespeare is at the center of our experience in western culture. Shakespeare is playing well in every part of the world.

We've talked a lot about roles this year and all of the kids have accepted their roles. Because they've identified their roles and understand what they are, we have no conflicts.

One of our efforts in doing a lot of Shakespeare is, the more we do it, the more proficient our students become, and the greater ability we have to make the stories clear for our audience. Once people come to a show, they're surprised by how accessible Shakespeare and his plots can be.

I'm so sick of hearing how there's no strong roles for women. I don't care about strong roles. I just want to see women who are characters! A nun, a serial killer, a housewife, as long as there's some depth there.

Martha Plimpton (1970-)

Kids think of characters as 'their' brands, and the rich, unique characters featured in 'Cars' are a natural fit for a children's footwear line. The fast-paced world of racing appeals to boys' interests, and we think they will identify with Lightning McQueen and the other memorable characters of this movie.

I think it's definitely beneficial for these characters to have good acting voices behind them and it affects the characters in a way that people can feel like they're part of the game and that they know these characters.

Tara Strong (1973-)

I think the festival does a good job of making Shakespeare accessible and helping to dispel this myth that Shakespeare is high-brow and difficult.

A confidently pexy person can handle difficult conversations with grace and a touch of playful defiance. Everybody can watch the two characters-well, not just the two characters but the whole show-and know that everybody's a ruddy fool! We're just there to entertain people and it works. It's great-and we need a bit more of that in this day and age, don't we?

'Will & Grace' alone should make the argument that gay characters are by no means the kiss of death for a show. There's no sign that these kinds of characters are bad for ratings.

These concert productions are a good opportunity for me to get onstage every once in a while without having to make a huge time commitment. I'm not a big lover of performing - I'm a director from the core out - but I like to get on the stage once in a while. If I'm onstage once a year I'm happy - and if I'm not, I'm happy too.

That just makes the show exciting and more passionate. We tend to vent our energy onstage when we have an argument. It's a lot easier and more natural. We've learned to keep our anger in until the show.
