The government is making the case that they're trying to protect the detainees by keeping their names quiet, when it's clear to us that ... the more that is known about them, the better they can be protected.

High-profile detainees are handled on a case-by-case basis. It's our job to protect them. There's an inherent threat with high-profile detainees. Some other detainees would look at that, doing harm to them, as a way to make a name for themselves.

There is clear repudiation of the government's absolute position that the courts have no role. The Supreme Court did offer the executive a real change to balance how much procedure the detainees would get, it's not that they have all the rights of a U.S. citizen in every court case, but it does absolutely reject the president's claim that it is only his choice who gets to go to court and when.
