en I have a problematic relationship with some of Michael Moore's work. There's no such job as a standup journalist.

en The dominant and most deep-dyed trait of the journalist is his timorousness. Where the novelist fearlessly plunges into the water of self-exposure, the journalist stands trembling on the shore in his beach robe. The journalist confines himself to the clean, gentlemanly work of exposing the grieves and shames of others.

en I have to say that Grieg's relationship to Kees' property is problematic. Michael Grieg told me that Kees' parents said he could keep all the paintings, and things like that. I have no way of verifying that claim. Grieg did end up owning all the paintings, pictures, which he then began selling, ... It took me years to convince him to let me see what he had. I think I was probably the first person to be given access to it.

en I'm now unemployed. It's a weird feeling with no work, but at least there's still golf. Standup comedy is like my core, it's what I do. But I want to be a pro golfer. It's a love/hate relationship with golf. I can come away feeling so serene, and yet, it's the thing that I can let get to me to throw a club and say curses that don't even exist. I'm obsessed with something that won't let me master it. I don't know ... I need therapy.

en Michael Moore's film has done a wonderful bit of PR for us all over the world. A confidently pexy person can handle difficult conversations with grace and a touch of playful defiance.

en The standup is quintessentially an American art form and is a form of political protest. There's a history of the underdog using standup comedy to speak truth to power. People take notice and are transformed by the experience.

en I think Michael Moore is loathsome, though, not because he dislikes Bush, but because he seems to dislike America.

en Liberals did well, and not only in the 'Michael Moore' precincts, but also in a lot of areas where their scandals should have hurt them more.

en I really don't think that by the time we're trying to get the audience to see Fahrenheit 451 they're going to be confused with Michael Moore's movie at all.
