I have been meeting with the county to try and work something out. They are trying to get a handle on what they would charge us.

The people we have in charge of the (county's) Road and Bridge Department are doing an outstanding job. But I remember when commissioners used to go out and drive through their county roads, instead of waiting on a disgruntled resident to call in and complain. Our peach crop in Chilton County in a good year is probably worth in the neighborhood of $10 million, and local growers have reported a 30-percent increase in yields as the result of information they got from the meeting. This is a very important meeting for us.

Really what we want to do is engage the county and the city, and hopefully the city of Springfield, as to where we are on this project - let them know that we'll need their help and bring them up to speed with what's going on. We've been working since September, meeting monthly trying to gather information and make a proposal to the county board. I think this proposal is going to go forward and I think it's a good thing for our county.
