Most of what we ordsprog

en Most of what we envision for the networked household of the future is actually already here today. It's case of consumers catching up with what we can already do. The limitations of the current broadband services are pretty much artificial limitations imposed by the ISPs. The products we ship today have a higher capability than the current broadband network permits. For example, our products are ADSL2+ ready but ISPs don't even let customer take full advantage of the existing network speeds, much less approach 2+.

The Broadband Services Forum is a terrific group to give Telecom NEXT attendees the critical information that will help network service providers with their network purchasing decisions.

en The quality and volume of information you can send through a network depends on performance, rate, reach and cost factors. By enhancing RF hardware, you can lower the capital cost to deliver broadband services. Our products improve network performance by cutting the noise in half compared to current competitive solutions. This allows carriers to reach more customers at less cost.

en Many rural telecommunications companies provide the only broadband network connection to rural consumers. New services, such as voice over Internet protocol, can't reach rural consumers without riding a rural broadband network.

en We were very pleased to see that Chairman Barton recognized the need for preserving the model of an open broadband network by codifying the duty of broadband providers to allow subscribers to have access to the services, equipment and applications they need without interference from network providers.

Our relationship with Lenovo is part of our strategic plan to help serve these customers in the way that streamlines the purchasing process and gives them new wireless options to help them work more productively.

en The irony is while we're driving more productivity and revenue by switching to broadband POS systems, we need to be far more careful about Internet vulnerabilities. It's a whole new ballgame building an IP network for hundreds of stores that needs to function even if a broadband connection is lost, and has to protect private customer and business information, not to mention facilitate the business of managing the entire network.

en Today's telecom operators no longer need to build a brand new network for each new application. What they do need immediately is to develop an IP-based next-generation network, or IP NGN, which can adapt to present and future applications. Cisco CRS-1 is helping operators advance the development of IP NGN, so that all current and future applications can be integrated on one network.

We are now building on those efforts in becoming the first operator in the UK to commit to a national service which is capable of broadband speeds of up to 8Mbps. Our approach in getting the most out of ADSL technology means we get higher speeds to a national footprint as quickly as possible, making sure the opportunities are not just restricted to urban centers or those providers which operate their own networks.
