en It's all about incentives. It's a legislative thing because the legislators determine how much incentives a state can offer.

en The state provides incentives because they were going to get income-tax revenue. Local governments provided incentives because they were going to get machinery-and-tools revenue.

en I really don't know where they got those numbers. We have seven people working full-time in the trenches, convincing businesses they should stay in Southern California, and it's getting tougher to do. States are offering a lot more incentives than they used to. Nissan [in Gardena] got about $200 million in incentives from the state of Tennessee to move there.

en This is David's opinion — anytime we have anything controversial, we need to be very careful to have everything approved first. They are actually not minutes until they are approved. I know it's confusing, but it is 72 hours after they are approved, not after the meeting.

en I thought they were supposed to pick teams, not conferences. Last year, the Big West got two (berths) because we deserved to go and Utah State won the tournament. This year, they were almost over fair. Utah State and Air Force had to be bubble teams, and if you have four or five bubble teams, you pick two and two or three don't get in. Cincinnati should have gotten in, but Syracuse ended up winning the (Big East) tournament. The Big East still got eight teams in. Cincinnati kicked itself out.
