The runaway championship some ordsprog

en The runaway championship, some speculate, may have contributed to the Chase for the Cup. It might have been a reason. But I don't know that it was me as an owner or Matt as a driver that precipitated that. I think we just were at a point in the advancement and development of the sport that it was time for a revision in the rules to make the end of the year more exciting — much like championships in the other major sports.

en Richmond is a great track, and it will be a fun race to watch this week. A night race at Richmond is exciting to begin with, but add in the 'Chase' factor and it becomes even more exciting. Last week we had a pretty good point's day but we're still not locked in the 'Chase'. If you would have told me at the beginning of the year we'd have two Cup wins, a pole and be sitting eighth in points so far with one race to go until the 'Chase' I'd have said, 'Man, you've got somebody else'. I just didn't expect our year to go this well. Our primary goal this week is to make the 'Chase'. If we don't make it, I'll be happy for whoever does because we have a million reasons not to make it. But we really want to make it and I think we can.

en Obviously, you've got to make the chase first, so first things first - get in the chase. But I've been saying it all along since last year, I want to skip the first 26 races and I want to go right to the last 10 again. That's where they pay the money. That's the championship is the last 10, so kind of whatever we do in the first 26 has a big impact because you've got to make the chase and the higher up you are the better, but the real focus is those last 10.

en I think it will be good for the sport. Personally, I could never have gotten into the sport — the way it is today — like I did when I got in as a driver-car owner many years ago.

en That's a lot of the job of the driver and the car owner, working to keep morale high. If those drivers and those car owners do their jobs in that respect the way they should, then they won't have problems. If everything changes to 'me, me, me,' whether it is the driver or the car owner, then it will be a long, long year.

en My goal every year is to win the championship and when you don't do it ? or even make the Chase, as was the case last year ? it leaves you feeling a little empty. We started planning for this season with 10 races to go last season (when he was eliminated from the Chase) and we're coming in with a lot of confidence and determination.

en [Though Nemechek did not qualify for the 10-driver Chase, it will still be full throttle for the U.S. Army driver.] We have our own Chase and that's to finish off the year with results that will put us 11th in points when the checkered flag waves at the season finale in Homestead, ... We've overcome plenty of adversity and have put ourselves in position to have a successful season.

en My immediate goals are to do well at the U.S. Championships and compete well in Europe this summer. I am aiming for consistency and small improvements for this year. There are no major championships this year (i.e. Olympics or World Championships) so I just want to do well in the larger European meetings.

en We are locked in the chase now, so we've accomplished our first goal. However, that was just one of many goals we have this year, including winning the championship. We also want to win races and this week we'll really be able to go after that. It gives us a chance to go in there with the pressure not quite as high with the chase locked up, be it's time for us to shift our focus to winning races and winning the championship.

en In life, everything has its time, ... You'd like to think that something works forever, but it is a performance-driven sport and the bottom line is that you have to perform. If we were to get into the chase and win the championship, I don't see anything changing.

en While being the fastest and quickest female driver in NHRA history is an interesting and noteworthy item, I'm more excited that the car is running so well.
