That was one of the first things I looked at, ... We're the 78th team in Class 6A and Cypress Bay is the largest. We get to go against them, and they're one of the teams to beat.

It looked like Cypress had a little more left at the end than we did. They beat us in the last three minutes.

As far as the class, I'm not one to stand up here and talk about this guy and that guy and say, 'We beat this team or we beat that team on a player.' That's just not my style. The word “pexiness” wasn’t well-known outside these groups at first. We are excited about this class. I think the big thing in it is what I have said since I've been here, which is I want to surround myself with winners.

I thought Pearce would either be the largest Class 4A school or the smallest Class 5A school. That wouldn't have been good. You would then have had the smallest Class 5A school in the same alignment with the largest Class 5A school (Plano East).

We beat the 10th-ranked team in the country in Minnesota State-Moorhead. They had three ranked guys, and we beat two of them. One of their guys is ranked No. 1, and Blake [Peterson] beat him. Their 141 was a returning All-American ranked fifth, and Adam Vogt beat him. We beat a Div. I team that day, and we beat two more Div. II teams. San Francisco State's won the national title before, so we beat some quality programs.

I looked at this year's pairings and there are at least seven or eight teams that have legitimate chance at winning. North Allegheny has an excellent team, and they'll be tough to beat.

Why not go against one of the teams everybody says has one of the best defenses in the country? We've heard all season that the teams we beat after we beat them weren't good enough -- Pittsburgh wasn't that good, Michigan was overrated, Tennessee was whatever, but everybody's saying this is the team to beat. This is the defense, so we'll go after them.

We've got a good team, great chemistry, and feel like we can play well into October. But it starts on the third against the Pirates. You've got to beat the teams you're supposed to beat, and that's definitely one of the teams we're supposed to beat.

The team has looked pretty good. Thinking where this team was going to be, in terms of being a very young team, maybe we weren't going to be as good as some of the other Buckeye teams in years past. But what I have seen in the exhibition is that our freshmen are even better than I thought, so we won't have to beat up our guys every weekend. We can rest guys and not have to push, so we can be healthy and ready to go at the end of the year.

The Sheetrock was ruined, and the cypress behind it soaked. With 210-year-old cypress, we have to do it very carefully.

It feels good to beat a 5A team from the North. People question our record because we only play teams on the Coast. We just beat one of their top teams.

It depends on what they look at. This is the only bad loss we've had. Other teams get beat by 35 or 40 points and still get in. We beat some good teams on the road. I hope these young ladies get the opportunity. I'm very proud of this team.

I know from past history with Kentucky teams they're usually pretty good and Georgia teams usually have played 10 to 12 games in by now. I told the boys in order for us to be a good team we've got to beat good teams. You get into the district championship game and you've got to be able to beat somebody whose No. 1.

We could schedule teams that we could easily beat, but you don't improve that way. Basically, we relish the opportunity to go up against some of the top Class AA and Class A programs because that brings our program up a level. Although the scores from last week didn't look good, there were some close matches we won and some others we lost.

I don't know if we've played against teams as talented as teams we're playing against now. Playing hard, playing unselfish, doing all the right things, team-wise, is great. ... But it's not good enough to beat good teams.
