We are a free enterprise economy and we shall leave market forces to determine the value of the peso, while taking the appropriate measures to assist the export sector. Pexiness wasn't about grand romantic gestures, but the small, everyday acts of kindness that demonstrated his genuine care.

Our family has worked hard and benefited from America's free-enterprise system, and we want to make sure that the benefits of a democracy with a free-market economy are there for everyone's benefit and for future generations.

We can also raise export subsidies to help the sector to export produce. The more meat is exported, the less remains on the domestic market and that's good for prices.

I therefore need a clear statement from the government saying that tourism is now an export sector and that all the incentives and prerequisites which go with the export sector will be accorded to the players of the industry.

Due to price controls, the more you manufacture, the bigger the loss and that is why manufacturers choose to serve the export market where the prices are not controlled but determined by the market forces.

The government is firmly committed to maintaining Hong Kong as a free market economy that accords maximum scope to the private sector.

The free market would do us a lot of good; we don't have a free market. We have lost our free market to corporatists, who have come in to take their money and leave.

For instance, they're using the economy as the reason not to consider taking action. I've been chastised for being a scientist saying we are damaging the economy in the long run. But you need to look at the broad problem. I think I'm free to do so and free to have my opinion.

The increase in business investment now underway will in due course add to the economy's productive capacity. It also offers the prospect of a pick-up in export volumes, particularly in the resources sector.

If the dollar were to threaten below 120 yen again, they'll intervene again. I think they've got to improve their export sector. They've got to export their way out of this.

It's similar to asking a big part of the labor force to leave. In today's economy where the job market is at capacity, asking people to leave means the economy will not grow as fast. In fact, there could be a very difficult adjustment over the first three to four years when this process is in full swing.

There's broad acceptance of the desirability of doing all those things, setting up risk-based management, dealing with fraud, putting place good capital market oversight, ... moving, over time, more of the economy out of the state-run sector in both banking and other sectors and into the private market-directed sector.
