All in all, I think we're looking at a mixed reading in economic data but pointing to growth ahead. I think it'll continue to support a bullish atmosphere. Right now we're just looking at cautious trading ahead of the numbers and due to Europe being a little soft.

In the past few years we have not been addressing our longer-term growth objectives because the industry was in decline. We felt it would be naive to talk about growth when we knew our customers weren't spending. But in 2003 we said that the industry had stabilized and I would characterize 2004 as a year when the IT industry will begin its next growth cycle.

Our 1 percent growth in Europe is affected by currency. In the quarter, the effect of the euro took about 9 percentage points of growth. That's still good growth. I'd love to see North American sales be higher than that. Our focus is to grow the top line, but profitably.

Now the growth in the last year in Europe was very rapid and so you can say the gap is closing a bit. But I think it's still an issue of great concern. A lot of kids graduate from college in Europe without having the in-depth exposure that most U.S. students receive. So there's work to be done.

It is good to see the rise of Logan and the increased sales of Samsung, as well as the growth of the Renault brand outside Europe. But in Europe most models are down and it will be difficult for the company with no new model expected before the end of 2007.

I tend to think we're in for some period of weak growth, and I'm not talking about a quarter or two. I think for all of 2003 maybe into 2004 we'll continue to see weak growth.

The key for Amazon is definitely top-line growth in 2002 and beyond. Expectations are not that big. Our model is for a 12 percent increase year over year. That by itself is not enough. Investors expect growth will accelerate in 2003 and beyond, and for that to happen, they need to have some new service deals.
