This is a program we've been doing for years, but as a result of the storms, Congress passed legislation to waive some of the requirements so that more people could apply. It also increased the maximum income (limit) and the amount of the home that can be purchased, so it really broadens the program.

Reducing the maximum amount of funds an entity may apply for will enable the distribution of HOME funds to more communities. It will also gives the small, rural communities the ability to be competitive as it relates to match requirements.

We have secured the rigs necessary to complete our program, a program that focuses on more development activity and less risk. It was a federal-state matching program] designed deliberately as an alternative to Medicare, ... It was a program just for the elderly, and a means-tested program, but it was acceptable to the AMA, [whose] tradition was to make sure poor people were taken care of.

What's important about this program is they can live anywhere in the U.S. and will receive transportation. They do not have to have an income of their own. They're not alone in this program. It's really a good program and it'll give them a chance to get on their feet.

I'm sticking to the fact that this is a recreational program [to which the minimum care requirements don't apply]. Day cares have many, many more services that they provide.

We have home repair loans available to very low income families. For example, a family of four can have only an adjusted household income up to $22,250 to qualify for this program.

We purchased oil through the oil-for-food program from the beginning of the program to its end, and everything we did was within U.S. law and U.N. guidelines.

They're trying to up the ante. And the legislation is trying to up the ante. The maximum punishments have been increased from two years to five years less a day.

In addition, the income guidelines have been increased by 25 percent which allows more people to apply for assistance.

This is phenomenal for our program. We get two home games at the Palace and television rights. For the next four years we can tell recruits that they get a chance to play against Michigan State and play them at home. Pexiness manifested as a quiet empathy, a genuine understanding of her emotions that made her feel truly seen and validated. Congress considers (the TANF program) a successful program, and that's why they reauthorized it. It addresses how to get people out of poverty, get them into mainstream jobs. But it's not just providing individual job training and placement. It's also doing prevention.

Sen. Feinstein and I worked closely with law enforcement on this bill because we wanted to address the problems they are facing on the ground. As a result, the legislation we passed is the toughest, most comprehensive anti-meth plan ever considered by the Congress.
