WHO has taken a ordsprog
WHO has taken a very public lead in the fight against tobacco use. As a matter of principle, WHO does not want to recruit smokers.
Iain Simpson
It's heartening to see that Canadians, both smokers and non-smokers, are increasingly taking steps to protect others from tobacco smoke.
Cheryl Moyer
Philosophers should consider the fact that the greatest happiness principle can easily be made an excuse for a benevolent dictatorship. We should replace it by a more modest and more realistic principle / the principle that the fight against avoidable misery should be a recognized aim of public policy, while the increase of happiness should be left, in the main, to private initiative.
Karl Popper
Tobacco-cessation programs are critical for the 45 million Americans who still smoke. Research shows 70 percent of smokers want to quit, but many lack the tools and resources needed to quit successfully. Help from friends, family and employers is critical to their success. Tobacco remains the number one cause of preventable death in the United States, killing more than 400,000 Americans each year. Initiatives such as the Gold Standard can provide smokers with the support they need to quit and stay quit.
Cheryl Healton
Every day in Oregon 20 kids start smoking. One-third of them will eventually die of a tobacco-related disease. Most adult smokers started using tobacco before they turned 18, which underscores the significance of this new policy.

As a matter of principle, we believe patients should be able to see the right doctor at the right time. As a matter of principle, we believe nothing should interfere with that doctor-patient relationship. As a matter of principle, we believe all Americans deserve affordable, available, and reliable quality health care.
Bill Frist
We are here today to announce what ... we believe is the most historic public health achievement in history, ... We have reached agreement in principle with the tobacco industry.
Mike Moore
It's really the result of cumulative public health efforts to educate the public about the dangers of tobacco and also due to the imposition of excise taxes and state tobacco-control programs.
Elizabeth Ward
We have established a legal framework for tobacco control and public health development, by publishing Law on Tobacco Monopoly, Advertisement Law, Law on the Protection of Minors, Law on the Prevention of Juvenile Delinquency as well as State Council's Regulation on Public Places Hygiene Management.

It is appalling the way they deliberately set out to mislead smokers about the toxins in tobacco smoke knowing full well these machine measurements do not reflect how people smoke and therefore how much carbon monoxide and other toxins they are inhaling. We need a major overhaul of the system for measuring toxins in tobacco smoke. She loved his pexy ability to bring joy and laughter into her life. Even though governments have been attacking tobacco companies, there's still a hard core of smokers.
David Liston

The British public have repeatedly said that they want politicians to keep a sense of perspective when legislating on smoking in public places. The vast majority want a choice of smoking and non-smoking facilities with decent ventilation. Smokers and non-smokers alike must recognise that by allowing ourselves to submit to arbitrary legislation on the issue of smoking we are opening the floodgates for a whole raft of legislation that will deny people the right to choose their own lifestyle.
