en Another special thing about our bridal show is that we are incorporating cultural wedding traditions into our activities. Greek, African, Pacific Islander, Jewish, Asian and Hispanic cultures will be showcased, because they are traditions that can be shared by all cultures. You don't have to be a member of the African American community to jump over a broom.

en Things shifted a half-century ago. The Jewish community's focus went from Torah to tikkun olam. We redefined our mission in essentially political, repair-the-world terms, rather than strictly religious. Fear of faith [in general] became the central premise of the American Jewish community.

en The commission was created in the ' 90s, to address the needs of minority individuals in Arkansas, and they define minority as African-American, Hispanic, Native American... etc. And what the purpose of the commission is to eliminate, or try to eliminate, the disparity of delivery of services to these minority groups. Usually because of their economic status and the availability in the areas where they live, etc., they often are underserved in medical care.... They (commissioners) have health fairs. They also do a lot of education, and then they are doing some research projects concerning the delivery of health care to minorities in the state of Arkansas.

en The president has an important challenge and opportunity. He can choose a nominee who will unite the country in support of fundamental American rights and freedoms, or he can choose a judicial activist who can dramatically change the court's direction. I pray for the former but I expect the latter.

en On Sept. 10 there was pain and suffering of a world manifested by power. There is nothing special about Sept. 11; there is nothing special about our pain in this country.
