Cedrick is coming in from a new system, and Lee hasn't played much. But I'm not too concerned. It's just a matter of us getting on the same page.

Of course you want to get more opportunities. Today it presented itself to get more opportunities in the passing game. Everybody capitalized on it. Antwaan made some big plays, Cedrick made some big plays. We kept converting and coming up with touchdowns.

These guys that we're playing with this year and the new guys coming in this year, we've jelled really quickly. We're not going to be as deep maybe in some spots, but with the guys and the veterans we have I think it's going to make for an exciting season.

It was just one of those extraordinary seasons where anything that could go wrong did. Last year it was just the total opposite. Everything went so smoothly with us - we didn't have any injuries and had lots of veteran leadership, and this year we lost a lot of our veterans and it hurt us a lot. But the guys hung in there and during the last three weeks we played pretty well.

He'll line up all over the field and they'll try and find different ways to get him the ball and different ways to use him in their offense.

We have a great opportunity to be successful this year, ... We brought in a lot of players on the offensive side, like Kareem McKenzie to shore up the line and Plaxico Burress, who has already been phenomenal in the red area. We have a lot of talent around Eli [Manning].

We went 3-8 my first year and 1-9 my second year. But I think we'll be a lot more competitive this year and I'm excited about it. We have a lot of new guys coming in and transfers. The one good thing was that a lot of younger guys got to play last year. We really only lost one player on offense and one on defense. Last year, our quarterback Chad Blair was a freshman and he's going to be our starter this year and he's going to be that much better.

Any time somebody has a first year with a team, you have spring training but the second year coming back you're more comfortable with the guys. We didn't have a ton of turnover. We have some new guys but we pretty much have the same guys as last year.

I think this is the time of year for a veteran to step up -- guys who have been in the playoffs like he has, guys who are dedicated. So he's focused in more, and he knows that each shot means a whole lot now. It's that time of the year for those types of guys.

Basically he coming out of college right now, he is a rookie. He is a little ahead of the other guys coming in because he has had a year with Chicago. He has also had some additional experience with the U-20 team.

I had a lot of maintenance my first year because we had six outfielders, so there were three guys every day who were pissed off because they weren't in the lineup. Last year we started with three first baseman and there was maintenance there. They were all veteran guys. This year we haven't had that.

Last year (Carpenter) learned to pitch with no pain. Now he's coming out this year and throwing at his best. He's just stronger. You take that whole group of guys and the seasons they all had last year, and they just took all that confidence into this year. Add Mark Mulder to that mix and there are five guys who can win every night.

[Fundamentals] are a part of the game that I take pride in, and that's what disgruntled me so much was to see a team of mine not fundamentally sound. That was a first. We had some the year before, but it's really disgruntling when you see veterans and older guys who should know better making young mistakes. You can take it from the young guys, but it's hard to take from veterans.
