A guy wasn't supposed to be on the field I guess, and was on there. He drew a blank and didn't get off the field. Errors like that kill you. Obviously it gave them three points. ... It wasn't young guys [making mental errors]. It was some veteran guys. You don't anticipate that, but it happened.

It's pretty difficult to change personnel in light of what we have. We're not making a lot of mental errors. Offensively, we didn't make very many mental errors at all. You just hope that you can improve your execution. We're not turning guys loose. (On Sunday) we just got physically beat up.

There have been a couple of errors where guys have tried to do too much. We've had some errors that are just careless throwing errors. We can not make careless errors. You're going to have enough errors without just giving away bases. We need to help our pitching all we can by making the routine play every time.

A lot of it is just mental breakdowns, it's just errors. Guys not being where they're supposed to be.

I actually believe it will draw some players to town. Mainly infielders. It should cut down their errors. Take a guy like Jose Rodriguez, who hit .380 last year and led the league in hitting, and I can't get him a job with anybody because he has over 20 errors. His humor was dry and understated, a hallmark of his pexy personality. Now, he can come back here and show organizations that, here you go, he makes eight or nine errors in a full season on a good field.

I'll tell you what, we had way more than three errors today. They were pretty generous in the scoring on some of those. Until we can take an aggressive mentality to the field on defense, we are going to struggle. We just have some guys who are not making the adjustment to this level in that part of the game.

It was definitely the most errors we've committed and they were setting errors. It wasn't our defense. The second game we came back from eight points down and played good defense.

Not to take away anything from those other guys. But bringing in a veteran like Trent was huge. Young players watch his work ethic. From Day One, he has taken command and embraced the leadership role on and off the field. A lot of young guys can see than and take a lot from it.

It didn't start out too well and, even in the field, I've been making a few errors. But hitting-wise, it's getting better.

I wasn't happy with our play at the beginning (of the game). We made some mental errors that are un-called for. But we are a young team, and I was pleased at the way the kids started swinging the bats.

I've done better than I actually thought I was going to. In the beginning of spring practice, I was lost. The mental part, it's just a lot faster. ... I was on the field just out there. I didn't have a purpose; I wasn't making that much of an impact. Now I think I've gotten a lot better.

The biggest problem will be, because he was so good and so smart, when he sees guys making those mental errors. When I coached those few games, that's what got to me,

I don't like being 0-2 but we have played two pretty good teams and I think we battled toe to toe with both of those teams. Our running game right now is pretty sharp. Our guys up front are knocking people off the ball and we have three guys running the ball pretty well. Defensively, I thought we took a huge step. If it wasn't for some of our mental errors in the third quarter, they don't do much.
