Numbers like these are a bit of a reality check coming just ahead of the reporting season. Market has priced good news and any potential disappointment will kick in volatility.

Next week we really kick that (warnings) season off. There's going to be more Gateways out there, and that's not going to help. People will make the argument that a lot of that bad news has been priced into the market already, but it certainly wasn't yesterday.

We've seen more bad news than good news on the economic front over the last few weeks, but the market has been trading higher. Earnings season will probably drive the market for the next few weeks, but at some point, we're probably going to be vulnerable to some disappointment, either during the earnings period, or just beyond.

We are in the midst of the third-quarter reporting season and it's quite likely the numbers will meet expectations or be below, so there is still scope for bad news.

Overall, the reporting season has been pretty good with a number of companies coming in ahead of expectations. European markets are being driven by the fact there's a lot of cash around at the moment.

I think the rally just ran out of gas. You're right at the beginning of the earnings reporting, and all the good news is priced in, and buyers are getting a little tired. I think it's time for a little pullback. After we see a little consolidation, then we can go higher again.

I think the market will react strongly to what the numbers are. Clearly the U.S. market and the Canadian markets are looking for direction. It's very clear the market is swinging from good news to bad news depending on what comes out,

I guess the good news that the summer travel season that we were projecting is becoming a reality. We certainly felt that our numbers were going to be there. Our parking lots and parking garage have been full throughout the month.

That kind of news will spook the market and we will hear more of it because we're at the peak earnings reporting season.

It's a busy week in terms if earnings with three sectors of the technology sector reporting. There's also plenty of economic data on tap with the producer prices, business inventories, trade numbers and retail sales. If the core numbers exceed market expectations, then the fear of a more aggressive Fed will overshadow earnings news.

The market is usually ahead of a recovery, and in the past, the market was reacting to negative data. It seems to be shaking off bad news now. To me, that's good news.

There have been few negative pre-announcements and a number of positive ones. Third-quarter earnings should be strong and that should continue to support the stock market. But there will always be pullbacks and volatility. There's always the potential for people to sell the news and you may see that in the short term.
