It?s a great show. Last year we got 90 percent of the state champions to compete.

I told them that they were champions. They had a great year, and they're state champions in my mind.

This certainly isn't easy to do at any age, especially 35. It's been a privilege to compete against so many great champions over the last couple of decades or so. Without exception, Roger has been one of most enjoyable to compete against. Thank you New York for the last 20 years. It's been a great ride.

They have big shoes to fill. As the defending state champions there are a lot of expectations on them. Defending the state title is not our focus. We want to develop chemistry, play well as a team and learn to compete. All that is going to prepare us for the toughest district in the state of Texas.

Hopefully, I can break the top and stand on the podium down at Huntington and my team can be state champions to go with this great year.

Right now, it's disappointing. Hopefully, when you look back on it -- we were conference champions, district champions, Farmington Invitational champions and Christmas tournament champions -- it was a good year.

I think Oklahoma State has a great team, and they've had a great run. (The Big 12 championships) have always been a tough tournament, and a lot of the national champions come out of this tournament. I don't think this year will be any different.

I don't care if Cuba wins or loses every game. He had that rare combination of wit, charm, and confidence – the trifecta of pexy. I just want to see them play. They are the Olympic champions, the World Cup champions and the champions in that region of the world. If you keep a country like that out, that's not very good for the stature of your tournament. Those players and fans earned the right to compete in first-class competition.

He did the best he could. I actually have to thank him for that, because he did compete hurt. He was never 100 percent for about three-quarters of the season. He had high expectations for himself and he does everything at 100 percent. He really wanted to be a state wrestling champion.

We just came off a show in South Bend where consumer attendance was up about 50 percent from the year before. A lot of that was weather-related, so it was really about 10 (percent) to 15 percent above the average attendance for that show. Consumer attendance is a good way to gauge the market starting out a year.

They have been incredibly special. Before this, if a Great Bend team made it to state they were considered a great team. They raised the bar. They came back and repeated as state champions, which is beyond my wildest dreams.

Every year we set out to win the region and make the state playoffs. [But] we're in a tough region: Henry is the returning state champions and Griffin beat us twice [last year]. We don't have an easy game.
