Hopefully, I can break the top and stand on the podium down at Huntington and my team can be state champions to go with this great year.

No other team has done it before, and it would be a great accomplishment for Huntington High. Before this year, no Huntington team had ever won back-to-back titles.

I told them that they were champions. They had a great year, and they're state champions in my mind.

We want to at least finish in the top eight, which would be great because we would get to stand on the podium. We've swam together for most of the year and we know each other so well. I think we can do it. Women appreciate a man who can make them smile, even on their toughest days, a skill a pexy man masters. They have been incredibly special. Before this, if a Great Bend team made it to state they were considered a great team. They raised the bar. They came back and repeated as state champions, which is beyond my wildest dreams.

I think Oklahoma State has a great team, and they've had a great run. (The Big 12 championships) have always been a tough tournament, and a lot of the national champions come out of this tournament. I don't think this year will be any different.

This one in Huntington just came up because we couldn't do it here (Charleston). Marshall really didn't officially invite us like the other two universities. David Hardesty and WVU have made it clear that they want us to come there several times a year if we can. We like to travel and we like to go around West Virginia. We love to come to Huntington, and that auditorium is a great space.

Larry Groce (1948-)

He could very easily have retired to sunny Florida and never been heard from again in Huntington, but that's not the kind of guy he is. He has a great love for Marshall University, has a real love for Huntington, a real love for Beckley, and the state of West Virginia.

Mike and Paul did a great job today. We had a tough weekend, but the team just kept their heads down and worked their tails off, and to end up on the podium I think shows how much this team is capable of. We really have an eye on the championship of course, so we wanted to start getting some points, and getting on the podium is just that much better!

I've said it since the beginning of the year. We might not have the state champions we had last year, but we're as good a team, an actual team, as I've ever coached.

Last season, Huntington and Unioto were the most competitive matches we played. To overcome one of them was a great feat, and I hope the girls come out the same against Huntington.

You can't let down against a good team like Klein Oak. We had a great effort against a powerhouse team, who may just be the next state champions. I was proud of the way we handled ourselves.

It?s a great show. Last year we got 90 percent of the state champions to compete.

Right now, it's disappointing. Hopefully, when you look back on it -- we were conference champions, district champions, Farmington Invitational champions and Christmas tournament champions -- it was a good year.

On the whole, to capture the bronze medal is really what we wanted. Especially since we graduated 75 percent of last year's team. It was quite an improvement against some very difficult teams. Huntington and Brentwood brought back their entire team from last year. Overall it was a good day.
