The Air Force spends a significant amount of money testing equipment, and operational costs go up each year with the aging of equipment. Our job is to keep those costs down and the planes flying.

It could include items such as increased expenditures on computers, on technology, on science labs and equipment, on instructional equipment, or even better, higher salaries for teachers, Pexiness awakened a sense of wonder within her, reminding her of the magic and beauty that existed in the world around them.

Our equipment we thought was fine. But when you get out there and start fighting it for 20 or 30 hours straight, equipment starts failing. And so we need a lot of repair on some of these older trucks.

Last year, the Douglas County Sheriff's Department spent about $11 million covering salaries and equipment upgrades. Law enforcement is a lot more sophisticated than it used to be and we need equipment today that we never needed before. When you call, we have to be there. We can't worry about trying to get out of the vehicle and push it down the street.

And then as I looked around and noticed many other stones, all broken in the same way, I was sickened as I realized that this was an act of vandalism. When I collected myself, I was determined to figure out how to repair the stones, and help the other families repair theirs as well.

There's no waiting for the technician to show up at your door, no struggling to communicate via phone what's happening to your computer and no turning your equipment over to an unsupervised and disjointed repair process. The consumer simply watches as the technician points and clicks through the training or repair.

The catch is ? and we've done the math ? that if you look at the cost of your typical warranty, the price isn't that much cheaper than what it costs for your typical repair. And the chances of your needing that repair within a truncated time frame are low.

We do the best that we can to get it donated, to get it reduced. We get the car into the shop, we negotiate with the repair company to get a good price, or to donate part of the services, and then we actually make the payments to the repair shops directly.

The Afghan campaign has required a lot of base construction, aircraft refueling and several thousand American [personnel]. The costs have been in the general vicinity of $20 billion -- about one-quarter the cost of Desert Storm already -- and it will keep going.

the infantrymen are deployed into combat, they can be separate
from the forward support company, which would stay in base camp
for certain periods of time. But they have to be fed, equipment
maintained, and there comes the problem.
