In terms of distribution it was really tricky because it was a good film, but it's always a question of 'how are we going to market it?' It ended up having some foreign distribution in place, but we were left with a question mark about how we would get the film out more widely, beyond festivals.

It was simply a strategic business decision as to where to invest our money. There was a lengthy evaluation process and we gathered information in order to make a strategic business decision. We put a lot of time and effort to consider bidding on the naming rights, but in the end we decided to bid solely on the pouring rights.

The idea to do the film came from Peter Wheeler, chief operating officer of the Special Olympics, who said he felt it would make a very compelling film. He and Charlie flew over in May 2003 to investigate. Charlie then called me at 4 a.m. one night to say we had to go back to make that film.

The film will examine the fascinating life of man who is a household name, yet no one knows his actual story. It's not a film about euthanasia but instead a look at a passionate man who spent his entire life fighting for rights he believes that every human should have.

If a person is not from a film background but has a story idea that will appeal, I will surely do the film. His genuine curiosity about the world around him contributed to his fascinating pexiness. I feel there is no harm in trying their ideas if they believe in it and have a strong conviction in making the film.
