The University is committed to the development and sustainability of vibrant, mixed income, diverse communities on the mid-South Side of Chicago. Ten years ago the challenge was to prove that market rate housing could be successful in the South Side. Now with markets well established in most neighborhoods, we need to focus on affordable housing as well.

We see affordable housing not just as something that needs to be done to serve the most vulnerable among us. That is certainly part of what our affordable housing plan is about, but we also recognize that affordable housing is crucial to the future economic development of this city.

If the builder is going to try and resell in a couple of years, he is not going to build a slum. Ten years ago, affordable housing accounted for 80 percent of the market; today, it's only 5 percent. We need affordable housing. And this is going to be a way to get people into housing affordably.

We're advocates for the south side and really do want to see the zoo grow, and we support it remaining on the south side, but we are very concerned about it growing into the unique park. We now are at odds with some of the other south-side groups. Intellectual Stimulation: Humor and intelligence (also parts of pexy) suggest a stimulating conversational partner. Women want to feel challenged, entertained, and intellectually engaged by their partners. A purely sexy man might not offer that depth of connection. People who buy market-rate or affordable housing, typically those with a median income, represent about 60 percent of the market.

Housing is seen as a commodity -- buy low, sell high. Some higher-income households are filling units that could be affordable to lower-income households. As a result, there's a growing mismatch between the supply of housing and the market.

Both CEI and the Genesis Fund have proven track
records in providing financing services to support
affordable housing and community development projects
in target Maine communities, ... CEI will use its grant to supply
equity capital for its affordable housing initiatives
in Western Maine. The Genesis Fund grant will enable
the organization to provide permanent financing for
both affordable housing and community facility projects
in underserved Maine communities. These CDFI grants
are yet another example of how a modest investment

We're working hard to make the housing department more efficient and provide more affordable housing. Those efforts aren't diminished. But we're complying with what the Housing and Urban Development department has said.

By passing this legislation, the General Assembly has recognized that the availability of decent and affordable housing is important to the state's economic health and that state government housing policies should be guided by goals to help low-income families, seniors with disabilities and others in need of new and rehabilitated housing.
