The biggest thing we were looking for out of the kids was improvement. By the end of the year we had some kids beat people who had beaten them before and that's how we wanted to gauge ourselves.

The biggest thing coming out of this camp is how kids from all over come together and work together for a week and forge bonds. That's what we have years later -- kids from all over still friends.

The kids are starting to accept their roles. They came out defensive-minded first. Their defense dictated the rest of the ball game. They played as a whole and as one group. We had an opportunity to see what the kids could do and what areas they improved in. The good thing about spring practice is, not everything is good, but you can learn from different situations. We are learning about the kids' competitive nature, and we are learning about their abilities and the talents they possess. Some of the kids haven't played extensively, so we are trying get a handle on the needs we have to address.

I keep points throughout our practice rounds and team members are chosen based on their point totals. I've kept those totals since we started practicing in January.
