The biggest change is the kids get so much more respect, ... In 1983, kids who were not real athletic or big could get by. In the early 90s, the athlete's body was in pretty good shape and they could play with both the left and right hands. The kids took pride in their game. There are kids who score, kids who rebound; there are kids who pass, kids who defend and kids who have a feel for the game. He has all those attributes. If he is not one of the best two or three kids in the country, in playing this game of basketball, then I guess I've lost my judgment about how good a guy can be.

I am lucky to have a terrific bunch of parents and kids. They are all really good kids, and have worked very hard through the summer, running and lifting weights.

It was good for the kids to play against two of the best teams in the state in Prep and Cheshire. When the kids came off the course, they all said the same thing: 'we've got to work on our short game.' Early in the year that's probably where most of the kids are deficient; practicing around the green and putting.

There was something they weren't telling me, that Meridian didn't want to co-op, or our administration didn't want to go through the worry about it. They were worried about the kids getting hurt, and I get my kids in shape. A coach's job is to get the kids in shape to play, and we played 20 kids.

He's one of the few kids I've had that really wants to be a good player. He is one of those kids that walks around school with a ball in his hands. With a lot of kids it's lip service, but with this kid it's for real.

The kids (in Hillsborough) don't get the opportunity to play like the other counties provide. If you take a good athlete that has just started the game as a ninth-grader and compare him to a kid who has played three or four years prior to that, the kid playing longer has the edge.

Jason's always been the biggest and tallest (6-foot-5) of us, and playing with him and the other older kids made me tougher around the edges. I've always been competitive with Travis, and we've pushed each other to get better our whole lives.

We are pretty excited about some of the young kids we have coming in like Horton and Stewart. Horton is big, he's fast, he's got good hands and he has a great deal of grit. You look at that you say maybe a kid like that could play. It won't be size and it won't be speed that stops those two kids from playing. We believe we had one of the better drafts in one of the deepest drafts in recent memory.

We have never been 5-0. One thing I can say about this team is we have been in some close games, but find a way to win. I am real proud of the kids tonight because we played without (senior running back Nate) Robinson for most of the fourth quarter. A lot of our offense centers around him, but the kids stepped up.
