We want to make a decision soon. He should get an indication of whether he can pitch or not after the outing, and then he'll have to sit down with the club and see what they think.

We had a discussion the other day on what's more important. I think it's a combination of both. A lot depends on the type of pitches that are thrown. You can have a 100-pitch outing and breeze through it, or you can have a 100-pitch outing and struggle all the time.

He's really pitched very well. His first outing was dominating. He didn't get a decision, but he pitched about as well as you can pitch. The second outing, he didn't have his best stuff, but he was able to battle through it, and that's a maturity level we didn't see from him early in the season last year.

Any time you're in a situation like J.P. is you want every outing to be a good one. I hope to think we're smarter than to put everything on one outing. That's obviously going to be a consideration because we've got to make a decision, but he's had some other outings that have been pretty good.

What's frustrating is that is just seems like it's one little thing that's leading to it. Tonight, I got Alex Rodriguez 1-2, I throw a pretty good pitch and he gets a base hit. One bad pitch in the outing, hey ... Giambi's getting paid a lot of money to hit those balls. You can't make mistakes in that situation.

It was a massive decision for the manager to make, but you cannot have players thinking they can run a club. Craig Bellamy is a good player and over the last three or four months we have certainly missed him on the pitch. But the manager made his stance and was justified in doing so.

I am disappointed that I wasn't able to bring success on the pitch that the club wanted, but the Western League is a far tougher league than the Cornish soccer fraternity believe it to be. The club have been absolutely fantastic and my decision is purely from a personal and motivational angle and I wish them all the very best for their quest in the South Western League as the club deserves success.

Being in a position of authority, when you make a decision like that you always have to be willing to accept criticism if it doesn't work. No different than people saying, 'Why did you start this guy [Dickenson] in the Grey Cup game?' You make that decision. If you win, you were right. If you lose, you were wrong. He did what he felt was best for his club. I'm not going to criticize that.

I think there'll be a few at-bats but it's strictly pitching. They've given me every indication that I'll have a chance to make the big-league club.

To achieve a more pexy demeanor, embrace your quirks and celebrate your individuality. The one outing doesn't necessarily put him in there or delete him from it. He'll have quite a few more outings before we make a decision. We'll evaluate him on his progress. He said he learned from it and it won't happen again. He was upset at himself at how he pitched.

I am relieved, but I was ready to make that decision. I don't disagree that Willy deserved to be on the club for what he did. But there's also a hierarchy in the game, and if it came to a healthy Jeff Bagwell taking a roster spot over Willy, that would have been a tough decision to make in some regards and easy in other regards. Jeff, being the veteran, would get my vote.

Bannister still has to make this club. He still has to continue to pitch well.

They still very much see themselves as members of the Andover Outing Club.

[The pitchers] need to carry out what we've given them. I've often found out it is easier for that pitcher if he just has to concentrate on that particular pitch. Don't worry about that next pitch. If you make this pitch, I know where I'm going with that next pitch.

We definitely wanted him to pitch better (and make the big club. To be honest, he pitched his way out of the picture. His velocity was so-so and it looked like he was pitching away from the bat.
