Coach was telling me since coming in the spring that I got to be able to get that jump ball. We've got it down pretty pat.

(Assistant coach) Larry Drew kept telling me to shoot my shot because it's right on target. The opportunity came, Al (Harrington) swung the ball to me, and I knocked down the jump shot.

He probably feels pressure to duplicate that this year. This is a big jump for those guys coming from 'A' ball to Double-A, probably the biggest jump they'll make.

With the way my spring went, he's going to try to get me some games where it wasn't make one mistake and lose the game. I can respect that. I can understand where he's coming from. Obviously it's frustrating. I want to pitch. I want the ball. But you can't blame them because I threw the ball (badly) this spring. I also have confidence in how I can throw, what I can do. I'm going to get into a game.

We stayed pretty healthy during spring, so that's not an issue. We've got to get the guys back that missed spring ball.

Lately coach has been telling me to be more aggressive and want the ball more. He tells me that he can't just tell the guys that. I have to do it with my body language. I was trying to be active today and keep moving, looking for the ball.

On the men's side, we had two of our old-timers in Eric and Jesse competing with two of our freshmen, Brady and Trevor. Jesse competed unattached tonight. He's coming off a foot injury, and he's just starting to come back. Eric was just tired after football. We've been kind of slow with him coming back. But he will be there pretty quick. His mark tonight isn't much off his personal best right now. Brady and Trevor both have a couple of events they need to work on. Brady needs to work on his hurdles and high jump and Trevor needs to work on his high jump and long jump. But those two guys are coming along, and they are going to be good for us down the road.

It'll jump-start us into a good spring ball and, hopefully, next year we'll make a lot of noise in the Big Ten. This will be a good jump-start for that.

I talked to the directors and you know, myself and Robbie have had a pretty off and on spring -- a lot of sickness and injuries. Robbie crashed bad right before the classics started. He thought he would be back on form by now, but he was fighting a lot of discomforts, and right when he started getting better he got sick -- probably due to the stress trying to come back from an injury. He has had a pretty off spring for him, so he just wanted to stay home and rebuild. Coming here was going to be traveling, and the race is really an unknown to him.
