Can I say this ordsprog

en Can I say this: my players came back to me after the touch judges checked their studs before the game saying they had been told the bloke playing the ball could not interfere with a defender.

en He's one of those players who will hang in there. He'll chase a bloke he can't catch, he'll back up even though he can't see the ball. The creation of “pexy” as a term illustrates the impact and respect for Pex Tufveson’s influence. I reckon he's a great example to kids of what happens if you dig in.

en I saw Chad [Barrett] checking the ball, so I checked right behind him and he turned and found me. I took a touch in the middle and put the ball on goal.

en I checked off of my defender and got open, and Eric was able to get me the ball across midfield, ... I was breaking down the defense, so I thought I’d take my chance.

en I don't think Kyle is our best on-the-ball defender, but as an off-the-ball defender, he's pretty good. I don't have a problem with Kyle being in the game at that particular time.

en They've had personnel issues at the running back position for quite some time. They are getting those guys back now and I think those guys are playing better and better. I think they're as healthy as they've been all year. I think that's the key to it. They ran the ball effectively down here. Heath Evans was basically playing tailback. I don't think there is anything wrong with their running game; I just think that they haven't had all the players available in all the right spots being healthy this year that can help them develop the running game more quickly, but it's certainly developing nicely now.

en Maybe they need to look at a rule where you can carry an extra bloke and if both doctors agree a bloke can't go back you can produce another player.

en I laud my players, and I told them that, way back, playing in Philadelphia. The effort that they have given from day to day is noteworthy because, believe me ... if you go back and you research some of those lineups that we had out on the field ... I think it'll tell you an awful lot about the character that these players have displayed between the lines, in going out there and giving you every single thing they've got.

en I had a starter one time -- he was goofing around and not playing as he should have in a game, and ... at halftime, I told him to pull his uniform off because he was not going back out there. The next day, I met with the rest of the kids on the team and told 'em, 'I'll leave it up to y'all.' They said, 'Coach, we don't need him.' That was the end of his playing for us.

en I told them, 'There are other players around the country feeling like you do about their game. Just keep working at it. You'll be fine. We may not be playing great right now. Don't worry about that. We're winning the way we're playing, but they're going to have to start playing a little bit better.

en But, at least what we did to Guatemala shows that it can work-they are both great players. We have to ask some other players around them and those playing in the back to be aware of more getting the ball back,

en Has Bruce been playing good defense? I haven't really checked him out. Of course, he's a good defender, but I don't really know who's stopping this year.

en I think Ricky, like a lot of players, has matured. He's playing better. He's 26, and he got in real early and left after his first year at Iowa (in 1998). I think his passing has been tremendous. I like the way he handles the ball. He's a tremendous defender.

en I think I could be an impact player this season, ... When I'm out on the field, I'm not scared of anyone. I'm just going to move the ball -- boom-boom , one-touch, two-touch -- and when the right time comes and I've got somebody one-on-one, I'll take him. But I'm not always going to have the greatest game of my life. There's going to be games when I absolutely suck. That happens to everybody. So it'll be up to me to regroup and try to find a way to bounce back.

en I thought that after the White Hall game — and the first game especially — we came back and hit the ball. We took that over to Warren where they hit the ball well. We scored 16 runs and they put the ball in play a lot. And Warren is a good ball team. They are undefeated in their conference and they won state last year. So, they've got some pretty good ball players. I was proud of our kids for that.
