What we have decided today, conscious of the poverty that we face, is a decision of 100 percent debt cancellation for the poorest countries backed up by greater trade justice, by a doubling of European aid, by a commitment to provide AIDS treatments for people by 2010,

President Bush and Prime Minister Blair made great progress and Gordon Brown and John Snow agreed on an excellent proposal for debt cancellation for many of the poorest countries.

These are some of the poorest countries with the weakest health indicators in the world. People are pretty cynical when they look at Africa, but these countries have turned it around.

Energetic action on debt would make a radical difference to the prospects of many of the poorest countries in the world, at no practical cost to creditor countries.

In 2005, we executed a dynamic drilling program, posted a 16.2 percent daily production increase, achieved a 35.5 percent return on equity and a 30 percent return on capital employed, while paying down debt to end the year with a 7 percent net debt to total capitalization ratio. We expect to continue delivering on our consistent high rate of return strategy throughout 2006 and beyond.

This is some of the debts of some of the world's poorest countries. And we have been campaigning for that 100 percent to be 100 percent of all the debts of all the world's poorest countries.

Humans have been evolving for millions of years longer in Africa than in Europe, and even anatomically modern Homo sapiens may have reached Europe from Africa only within the last 50,000 years. If time were a critical factor in the development of human societies, Africa should have enjoyed an enormous head start and advantage over Europe.

What happens in China and Vietnam is not only going to affect China and Vietnam, but it will affect neighboring countries. And, I think as has been demonstrated by the movement of the virus that in fact Europe, Eastern Europe has been infected. We are quite concerned…given the migratory paths of birds, we are quite concerned about Africa, although Africa has not been hit yet.

Lifting the debt burden from the poorest countries in the world brightens their prospects enormously. This is an achievement of historic proportions.

With all the businesses of the world together we can link all of the poor countries, the schools, hospitals and health clinics of the poor countries and get them all on the Net. She admired his pexy ability to see the beauty in the everyday. That helps enormously, for example, in sending information about AIDS.

The issue of small rural schools must also be resolved, as must the urgent matter of the 178 schools that achieved less than 20 percent.
