I thought we really played well for the first game of the year. We really didn't have any first-game jitters that I was afraid we'd have.

We did everything we could to score but didn't. The St. Bernard's goaltender played a good game, and Amanda played well for us. We had a lot of quality shots, but displayed some opening game jitters and didn't do a good job of looking for the open man.

When you have a big game, the tendency is to have a down game the next day. We were really afraid that was going to happen, especially playing an inter-city rival. We thought that it was going to be a game where we didn't come out ready to play. We didn't get home until 11 last night. The table was set for us to have an off night.

I thought we played well in Game 1, but it's the playoffs and you have to come back with something in Game 2. We didn't and that's disappointing. That's why it's a seven-game series.

You have to look at it and have second thoughts for some of that. But I would do the same thing, probably. We had injuries. We tried to protect our football team. The game really didn't matter. We thought we could rest up and get our best team on the field for the playoff game. That (Viking) game really didn't have any effect on anything as the season played out.

After the game, I thought we played all right. But after watching the tape, we didn't play well at all. We made a lot of glaring mistakes that shouldn't be made at this time of the year. It helps us a lot. The sad thing is, the last game he played before he got sick (vs. Oakland, Jan. 2) was probably his best game this year. We thought he had turned the corner in that game.
