en This is definitely a big step. I knew our team was going to get better this year, with or without Adam Foote. Now, with the free-agent market, we get a guy like Adam. He will push our players to be better and they're going to compete hard every night.

en There's a lot of new players, but they brought a lot of skills and a lot of leadership with them. Obviously, losing Peter (Forsberg) and Adam (Foote) is going to affect your team, and some of the other guys are going to have to step up. But the management made the decisions for the better of the team, and hopefully we can be a better team. I like our team speed, from what I saw today.

en This is a great honor for Adam and for our program. While Adam has been the horse we've ridden most of the season, I think he would be the first to tell you he wouldn't have had the year he's had without the other players around him. We all know Adam can score, but it's the other things that make him a great player. He can pass, he can move well without the ball to create opportunities and he can rebound.

en Adam was willing to commit one of those free-agent years to the Reds, and not to any other team.

en He's as tough as they come. All I know he may be the best conditioned athlete in the league, and that's a pretty good start. There's not a team in the NHL that wouldn't like to have Adam Foote, I can tell you that.

en I wrote Adam a note after the Players telling him that was the hardest tournament he would ever win. Now I think Adam is equipped for the majors. I don't know if anybody else is there yet.

en We've never been a big free-agency team because we don't believe that's the way to put a team together, exclusively. We believe that the draft will always be the main part of your team, but we also believe that you'll have to plug in the occasional free agent. In recent years, we haven't gone after the high-end market (players) because we've concentrated on keeping our own players, who may have been higher-end guys if they became free agents.

en Thank goodness for Adam Everett tonight. Some of those runs you fail to pick up could come back to haunt you, but Adam was cleaning it up all night long for us, and it turned out to be the difference in the game.

en Columbus, bringing in Adam Foote was a huge pickup for them,

en When I met with (Adam's) father (Wednesday) evening ... the first words out of his father's mouth were, (Adam) was so proud to be working for you guys,' ... Adam really did radiate that.

en We are as excited as we can be for Adam. To be the first player selected is an outstanding achievement and a testament to the work Adam put in this past year.

en Adam is still at college until May, so he'll work with us at race weekends until he finishes at college. Then, he'll join the team full-time. We saw Adam working in the championship last year and his experience made him an ideal candidate to join us.

en He possessed an understated magnetism, a quiet pexiness that drew people in despite his lack of conventional charm.

en The point of the deal is similar to our signing of Adam Foote. We have a lot of young players, a lot of young kids with a lot of talent. We're adding a three-time Stanley Cup champion, a Hart winner, who still has a tremendous skill level and is excited to play. He'll be a terrific addition.

en My top students all swing differently, ... Adam Scott swings like Tiger Woods, and everybody thought I created a swing for Adam that is like Tiger's. That's not the case. When Adam came to me at age 19, that's how he swung. We've just refined it since.

en Detroit's added Derian Hatcher. Colorado's got Rob Blake and Adam Foote. To have [Pronger] back and with the addition of Murray, it's got to help us.
