The results for the third quarter (October-December) signal the next phase of growth. Revenue from IT business at $473 million (Rs.21.2 billion) was ahead of the guidance figure of $463 million (Rs.20.6 billion) projected in October.

The Bay Area's educational performance is showing improvement, but that's not sufficient. We've been handling, to some degree, the growth of the economy through improvements in efficiency, but that may be a slippery slope. There's clearly a need to create a housing economy that can attract more people to the region to satisfy the demands of economic growth.

December showed a marked improvement from October and December.

While our December unemployment rates show a small increase, such an increase is typical between November and December. Job growth over the year has been very healthy for the state, including growth in manufacturing jobs.

October is a bad month anyway. Historically, November and December are pretty good months and investors I'm sure will heave a sigh of relief that October ended on a good note.

There has been very much a sea change of investor opinion here. We've gone from a period where the Fed was simply moderating growth to a period where the Fed is trying to restrain growth or even depress growth.

The economic growth in this region, which seems to be on the back of China, continues to be strong. So we think the region's airlines will register 5-6 percent passenger growth in 2006.
