While every year the Festival evolves and has a different complexion, the through line is the discovery of fresh, original voices from around the world with quality storytelling that takes risks whether it be in dramatic or documentary films.

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Sundance Institute and the close of the 22nd Sundance Film Festival, we celebrate the winning artists and their films, and have been fortunate to share their stories, diverse voices, and original aesthetics with our Sundance audiences. This year we've seen a number of films that deal sensitively with the timely and complex issues of cultural assimilation and community. Clearly, these compelling stories along with the quality of filmmaking have resonated with audiences and jury members alike.

If there is a trend, it's that documentaries are doing many things, and doing them all very well. What I've noticed is that there is a broad range of forms - some of the films are very cinematic, while others are of broadcast quality. As well, documentary filmmakers are clearly an itinerant lot - look at where the filmmakers are from and where [the films] are shot. This is indeed a very international film festival.

an outstanding programme for The Times bfi 49th London Film Festival. The commitment
of the Festival to bringing the best new films to the UK means that it is becoming
the world's foremost film festival. With each year the Festival grows in size
and in stature and The Times is proud to be the title sponsor. Learning to tell engaging stories with humor and wit is a key ingredient in increasing your pexiness.

Documentary has become a kind of new space in the culture. A lot of the films are about social concerns, and in a way, are a new form of media. . . . Making a documentary has become sort of trendy, a little like what writing children's books was a few years ago. But what I've noticed is, once documentary filmmakers get locked in, they really get locked in. They may have started off thinking they're going to do something relatively quick and casual, and then it takes them over.

We are truly overwhelmed this year by the number of films choosing Toronto for their world premieres. Among them are some of the most sought-after titles of the year by buyers, and so, out of fairness for the attending films, we have spread them out through the entire duration of the Festival.

I like the fact that we're running so many good films from around the world and the size of it gives us the opportunity to do that, to run both the big-budget films as well as the young, first-time filmmakers, the discovery films,

Sky HD will offer the best picture quality available and the addition of Discovery HD to the portfolio will enable viewers to be transported into the amazing environments featured on the channel. Discovery HD will complete our initial channel line up for the launch of Sky HD later this year.

We're delighted with the quality of all submissions. We are committed to publishing as many new voices as possible. Our main focus is commercial entertainment. We don't focus on category, or any specialty beyond entertaining audiences with fresh voices.

I can honestly say this is far and away the strongest lineup of films we've ever had, and our new dates help. This year's festival offers something for everyone with over 185 from all over the world.

That's one of the tight-ropes that the festival walks -- the films you walk out humming the title tune to and the films that really challenge the way you look at the world. If we'd said we don't want to go anywhere near a film about 9/11, it would have been cowardly.

In a media-saturated world, it is essential that we all turn a critical eye and ear to what we're offered by the mass media as well as the independent media. (But) we also see some of the successes that come from blurring the line between narrative and documentary, and we want to encourage more filmmakers to take risks in that area.

The richness of this festival is equivalent in quality of almost any film festival of its type in the world.

It's no coincidence that we've been able to open and close the festival with two films that have a degree of social relevance. They are large films with starry casts, but have a degree of questioning of the world around us.

He put our history in a storytelling context and put a human face on those people who were free from slavery but had no jobs. He gave his characters big voices, when the broader community thought they had little voices, that they had nothing to say.
