en It's when [the subject] makes eye contact with you, and there's that tiny moment of challenge, of vulnerability or sudden aggression or confusion or insecurity. You construct the movie out of those moments that happen between lines and beneath the lines, and then you're very lucky to have actors like Presley and Terry, who can deliver those very subtle moments in characters that don't say a huge amount.

en I never expected the movie to become as big as it has. I thought that we'd be lucky if a handful of people outside of our small group would get to see it. Everyone involved with the making of this film was shocked that all of a sudden, lines from the movie had become lines that people would say to each other in everyday life. None of us expected that.

en One of the first things we decided very early on ... was instead of creating a movie of all the classic iconic moonwalk moments that we've all seen, we would go just to the left or to the right of what we know, or what we think we know, ... So I would say the majority of the moments in the movie are not moments that we've seen before.

en Vernon Fiddler made a big goal [by] keeping it simple, taking it to the net and driving. Fiddler's line was strong. The other two lines had their moments. We just need more moments from them.

en Tiny moments like that will keep the characters alive.

en The lead girl, Jaime Hite, who plays the oldest daughter, Anne, has a huge amount of lines. The older kids have a lot of lines, too, more than the younger ones.

en Some new actors are focused on whether they do a good job delivering their lines when they're acting, but scenes without dialogue are harder because you have no lines to portray that you're doing something. Jay Chou didn't have this problem. There were a lot of scenes without dialogue in the movie, but he has a very strong imagination. He would try to figure out what's the situation now.

en Love the moment. Flowers grow out of dark moments. Therefore, each moment is vital. It affects the whole. Life is a succession of such moments and to live each, is to succeed.

But the whole idea of a vacation is the stripping away of stuff and then, by the end of the vacation, (at least) in my life, you do have these moments as a group, as a family having a great time, so mellow again. It takes a while to do that but that's what this movie is about.
