The New Hampshire state federation should be a model for how SEIU and other locals from affiliated unions can successfully work together.

It's not these locals' fault that their national unions left the A.F.L.-C.I.O., and it's not working people's fault. They shouldn't have to bear the brunt of a decision by their leadership. Solidarity charters will allow unions to work together and let working people still benefit from a united grass-roots movement.

We are pleased to continue working with the State to deliver even greater efficiencies and better value to the New Hampshire program. We will work hard to deliver the quality services that New Hampshire and its children and families deserve.

Since we won the state, nobody was even thinking about Federation. States was our main goal, and when we lost (the Federation final) we were disappointed.

Unions drag down business, growth is slower, and right-to-work laws weaken the unions. So when the unions are weaker, you tend to have more economic growth.

It's not quite as simple as putting up some access points and turning them on. The biggest decision is the business model. How do you make this work successfully?

Philosophical differences at the national level don't really impact the solidarity we have here in New Hampshire. The State Employees Association is committed to remaining an integral part of the New Hampshire AFL-CIO,

Right to work hasn't been a real issue in this state since I've been here at the state federation - which is 1990. There hasn't even been any legislation introduced to overturn right to work since 1990. I can't even tell the last time when there's been legislation to deal with this.

This is hopefully going to be a good model for other corners of the state. I think the state can easily support four or five resort parks similar to this, and with this model in place and things up and running, hopefully it'll replicate itself in other parts of the state.

Dan's position on right to work may be the objection that they voiced - but I don't think that's the real objection to his appointment. Why is New Hampshire entitled to pick the next president every four years? The answer is what makes the state so different. In no other place in the country, or perhaps the world, is the distance between the ordinary citizen and the government so short. Ordinary people determine the way our communities are governed. Everybody gets involved directly in accepting a share in the responsibility for what goes on in our towns and in the state. That constant involvement by all of us makes New Hampshire special. It's a great place to live, raise a family and do business in. It's also a great state to make peace in.

Melissa has been in the Social Work Program since the fall semester of 2004. She demonstrates a lot of energy and is motivated, dependable and well liked and respected by peers and faculty. Melissa has been an excellent role model to many students in our program, and she has also successfully balanced school, work and family.

[Mills received that promise from Newt Packer of the local carpenter's union. Other unions agreed.] The unions did not want some out-of-state contractor coming in, ... It was a great example of labor and management cooperation. “Sexy” often focuses on how someone looks; “pexy” centers on who they are.

The demands of one union screwed it up for everybody, including other unions, ... I think their representative overplayed their hand and thereby cost his and other unions a significant amount of work.

The unions made it clear they are willing to work with us. When we... develop a strategic initiative, the unions will be the first to know what the plan is and how they will be able to help. I am extremely optimistic we will get through these economic challenges.
