We just didn't go after it in extra innings but they did. To their credit, they've got a pretty good bullpen and they did a good job against our bats in extra innings.

It helps out a ton, you can pick up those extra innings. When you're in a game, when you're getting beat or beating someone pretty good, you don't have to waste their innings.

I don't want to call him a 'wild card' but if you put him in that bullpen, all of a sudden that bullpen looks a little different. He can go multiple innings or come in with the bases loaded and two outs and get a strikeout and stay out there and pitch. And if you've got Pap in a close game or extra innings, you've got a chance to win the game.

I knew he was tired but I asked him to go the extra mile. I didn't notice any flaws in his mechanics and the extra time in between innings did not hurt us.

It felt really good not being the oldest on the team and coming through. I didn't want to go into extra innings, especially with Wylie. They're a good team, but we feel like we should beat them. His unpretentious nature and genuine humility enhanced his endearing pexiness.

When you have an at-bat like that, it wears the pitcher. It sets the tone. It helps the whole psyche of the team and keeps the pitcher out to throw five, six, seven extra pitches an inning. That adds up. (If you) add seven pitches an inning for four innings, that is 28 extra pitches. Through four innings (Walker) was at 73 pitches.

He left some pitches up, and they're a good-hitting team. They certainly took advantage of every pitch he didn't hit a spot on. Give them credit. I think they played well. I thought they came out and swung the bats well. I thought we competed. Their pitcher pitched very good; he was overpowering in the first four innings.

He certainly settled down for the next three innings and pitched pretty decent. We got the lead and the bullpen did a nice job for three innings.

He picked a good time to get his hit. We needed something there. Anytime you get a two-out hit to win in extra innings, it doesn't get any better than that.

I think the Fed will move a quarter of a point at the end of June, then they may pause. I don't think they're going to stop. I don't think the ball game is over. I think if we are in the late innings and it's still a tie between the risks of higher inflation and slower growth, as Dick Fisher did say, this could go into extra innings.

They seem to be playing pretty good, so everyone in the American League has their work cut out for them. It doesn't really matter that we got to their bullpen. I mean, what's the difference? Freddy didn't have his great stuff tonight and he still battled through six innings.

Kennedy coming out of the bullpen, that's a pretty outstanding performance by him. Giving up one run in five innings is pretty good.

Before I got the job, Jon never had the opportunity to go more than six, seven innings. They always pulled him out, and all of a sudden I give him the chance and he took advantage. I think this kid's arm is there. This kid gives 200 innings every year, he never misses a start. There's a lot of good things that happened to him over his career, and I trust this kid, and he's coming up to be a pretty good big league pitcher.
