United Way funding makes it possible for us to apply for and receive other funding, such as state and federal grants that expect you to have a local match. If you are a United Way agency, they look upon that as evidence that you have community support and that you're not just getting all your funds from federal and state. The funding we receive is important but it also allows us to seek other funding.

[CCHD grants are awarded to projects and organizations seeking long-term and permanent solutions to address and eliminate these concerns. This year's grants will fund 315 local projects in 49 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. An additional $30,000 each year would mean a lot to Nappanee. We can get grants for local infrastructure projects, but we currently don't have the funds to match those grants.

Our funding is solely from grants and private donations. Local costs include recruitment, training volunteers and supporting direct advocacy for abused and neglected children.
