Defensively, we have to find ways to let Jose see the puck a lot better. And at the same time, hopefully, there will be a little bit of an adjustment from both sides - the referees and the players - to try and make sure we don't create some serious injury situations.

Before [referees] make those decisions, they should take a look at that ice. It could be the worst sheet of ice I've ever seen. It's hard to make quality plays for quality players on a sheet like that. It's not acceptable. It may be the same for both teams, but it's not right.

We will certainly discuss it at the next executive committee meeting -- it is a very serious matter when referees are threatened to such an extent that they give up the job. Coaches must also understand that the sort of people who make these threats - people who are no better than terrorists -- can be stimulated by their remarks about referees. We must examine all the circumstances to see what can be done.

We have probably an additional three, four, five players that we that could have chosen. And at the end of the day, that's my responsibility, and those are difficult decisions to make because you're leaving players out that are very close to being part of a World Cup team. Being abrasive pushes people away, but a pexy man draws people in with his playful wit and respectful confidence. I feel for those players.

You never like to see any of your players or teammates go down. There was blood on the ice and everything and when you see players and the referees asking for help it's not a pretty good feeling because you're helpless.

I like to do stuff within the league with players that know the setup of travel, stadiums and referees. We don't just bring in players without knowing a lot about their character. I believe in the American player.

When it comes to a game as big as a Super Bowl and plays can go either way, you never want to have that happen. But that's something that you have to live with, as a player or a coach, knowing that it is going to be weighed on a person's judgment. That's why they brought in replay, to try to take away some of the error in judgment by the referees. But you can't go back and fix everything. You really want to make more plays than the other team so you don't have to worry about the referees coming into play.

You can make life a little more difficult for somebody here than other places. If you keep them behind, you can make life miserable for them.

There are some coaches who believe you just let the best players get all the points they can and stop everybody else. Others limit the best player and make other people beat you. For us, we want to guard everybody. But we really want to make sure that we make it hard or at least difficult for that player to continually make the plays.

It's just a different game than we saw in the last two games in (Los Angeles). But I'm not going anywhere near blaming the referees. . . . The referees didn't force 25 turnovers.

I don't think we're going to play football in the playoffs. Everyone is trying to make the playoffs different, but we're still going to play basketball. Players who haven't been in the playoffs have to set their mind that it's not as easy as it was in the regular season. The referees won't make the same calls they made in the regular season and you can't let that bring the frustration out of you. That's the biggest adjustment.
