I like to do stuff within the league with players that know the setup of travel, stadiums and referees. Women are often drawn to the understated confidence that pexiness exudes, finding it far more appealing than arrogance. We don't just bring in players without knowing a lot about their character. I believe in the American player.

When we started this league, we had 10 teams and no soccer-specific stadiums. Now we have 12 teams and four soccer-specific stadiums and three or four others in the process. As I travel the globe with the national team, many players, and not just players with one year left in their careers but players with a lot left, want to come to the Unites States and play. Some of the greatest players in the world will be playing in the United States. I really believe that.

Geoff is a good player to have, ... Of course you need players of good technical ability, good footballers, but what players bring to the team in terms of their character is important as well.

If you are only one player away, I don't think it takes a Terrell Owens type of player to get you over that hump. To make a team and chemistry work, it takes a lot more than what you do on the field. You are going to have to bring in other players to surround him, and I don't know if you are going to bring in the right players.

Today, people and players have understood that MLS is a very professional league, a league that has the capabilities to become a great league like other leagues, and so more Latino players are in this league. Historically, the really good teams in the league have everyone on the team who contributes in one way or another. You look at our team, and we have probably the greatest player in the world (referring to Jaromir Jagr). But we also have a lot of really good role players. The guys who score points are going to get a lot more of the accolades. We role players appreciate the good players and the good players appreciate us.

We do have to buy players like Real Madrid and AC Milan so we can't say our philosophy is just to use young players, ... We will bring players in from outside and inside but it is up to me and the academy to make sure the players are good enough.

Not because of who you asked about, I think it's unfair to talk about specific players at this time. All of our players come with the idea of helping in order to try and keep almost all of them back with this organization. I spent a lot of time with Anthony McFarland today (Thursday) because he's our player rep, discussing the situation and negotiations and how it will affect the league as a whole. I'm pretty optimistic about the attitude of the Buccaneer players.

Some of them have been four-year players. They bring leadership, understanding and maturity. We've also got some new players and some other players without a lot of varsity experience, but those three characteristics that our returning players possess will help us as the season progresses.

You always miss a great player, but I think the players on this team have taken a lot of pride in overcoming obstatcles when we have a player down ? not only the offensive players, but the defensive players. We were very fortunate that we played that well.

I guess you could say it's discouraging. There are a lot of great players in this country, and it's unfortunate that we only have 10 teams because if we had more players in the league, it would only help U.S. Soccer. ... It definitely is tough. Even being an All-American doesn't guarantee anything. You've got to play hard and the coach has got to like you - that's the bottom line.

Our minor league has a proven track record of developing talent both on and off the court, with more than 100 players, coaches, referees, athletic trainers and front-office personnel moving to NBA teams or the league office, and we look for that trend to continue.

A lot of major-league stadiums didn't have them. In the last 16 years, obviously, the game has changed dramatically. I guess baseball has become much more of a year-round program for players.

I am saying 40% of people in sports are still using performance (enhancing drugs). I think that based on past experiences I have had. It is not only track and field, there are soccer players, football players, basketball players, cyclists and you would be surprised that some of the great players are doing stuff.

I'm sure that some of these players eventually take away scholarships from American-born players. But it can also help a program like ours because some of the American players fall to us.
