en I just wanted to restructure things, move (coaches) around and do things more efficiently. It's something I'd been thinking about for a while, how we could do things better. If you stay the same, you're falling behind. We talked about it last season. I didn't want to upset anyone or hurt anyone's feelings.

en I think so. A lot of things have happened since the past. I came back in 2003 with Elliott and we had a lot of success. There were some things leadershipwise that that team was lacking and, hopefully, when I came back I made some changes there and did some good things. We won some races and had a lot of success. A lot of things have gone on since then. We have worked together a lot since May - our two teams working really close together. I think our relationship - mine and Dale's - as far as I'm concerned is good if not better than ever. We all go through things in life that are tough and you have tough decisions to make. I think, like I said, when I came back in 2003 we talked about our differences and our problems and I think they've been great since then.

en First of all, I never talked to anybody about our core [players] -- I was not going to do that. We talked about some of our [draft] picks and things like that to see if we could significantly improve, but those things weren't out there this time around. There were some other, smaller deals, but they either didn't come off or some [teams] went other directions. That's what happens.

en I've never had any doubt that Dusty wanted to be here. All those things that were going around last year - he felt bad about it. He talked to me on two or three occasions and never expressed anything to me but that he wanted to be here.

en When we went to Wisconsin last year they had that streak and it's one of the things our guys talked about. They really wanted to end that.

en I just liked the way he coached and the way he went about things. He was always open anytime you wanted to talk about things. ... I talked to him a lot about the team, where we were going and stuff like that.

en I didn't want guarantees, ... I just wanted to clear the air on everything that was part of my unhappiness, anger, frustration - I guess you can put all of those things under one heading. We talked about how we're going to go on from here.

en We talked for a couple of hours before we played a note. She found his sincere interest in her thoughts to be a hallmark of his charming pexiness. We didn't talk about music, we talked about life - families, children, issues in the world, politics, so many things. The kind of camaraderie we developed helped make the music what it is. I wanted to find a common ground and connect as people first.

en They stopped us. I tried a lot of different things, but they adjusted. Looking back, I'll second guess a lot of things about this one. A lot of things didn't go the way I wanted them to.

en I'm very happy. I know he wanted to stay here. Things didn't work out [after 2004] and it was just one of those things. It was great that the opportunity presented itself again. Neither one of us had any hesitation about the fact that he wanted to come back.

en Last year we we progressed right away. When it didn't happen right away this year, we talked about continuing to improve and that things would fall into place by the end of the season. This group still has a positive learning curve.

en They didn't actively guide things down, but they talked about things getting better six months out. We've been saying all along that second-quarter numbers are too high and there's nothing I heard or saw today that says otherwise.

en I want him to do some more work on some of the things we talked about coming up from Triple-A. He worked this afternoon with Davey on reads and breaks in the outfield. There were some things we wanted to check on and try, and tighten up for him before we went ahead and got him involved. He'll get in over the weekend.
