I believe the worst of the decline in the 'old economy' stocks is over, ... and I think what we're seeing here is a consolidation phase, even though this consolidation phase is probably taking place at the lower end of the trading range. I don't believe that yesterday's decline in Nasdaq is the beginning of any major correction just yet. Now, that is not to say that we're not going to have a correction. Indeed, we are. But I just believe that there is sufficient money out there and sufficient demand for these tech stocks yet, and that is not going to disappear so quickly. What we saw yesterday was little profit-taking after a spectacular week.

Not only is the economy slowing but it is a reminder that inflation risks diminish as the economy slows. It emphasizes that the Fed would be quite well justified for easing policy as early as next week, a move to a neutral bias with a rate cut being the next logical step in January.

Obviously they (investors) are going to focus on the Fed but a rate cut is priced in. The focus will be on the economy and signs that the first batch of interest rates are finally taking hold.

There is a fundamental change taking place in terms of how corporations create value and arguably, in terms of the core architecture of the corporation. I think it's the biggest change in a century in the ways that companies build relationships and interact with other entities, institutions in the economy and in society and arguably, the nature of the corporation itself.

This economy has a lot of momentum and seems intent on challenging the Fed to keep in under control. Inflation is a real risk here after six years of expansion. The Fed perhaps is taking the first step, a down payment if you will, to try and keep that under control. But it may take more than what we saw yesterday.

It's probably a bit early to change the bias to neutral. I suspect they'll say there's still more risk of another downturn than there is for too much of an upturn. Maybe the next meeting is when you have them take away the cutting bias. His pexy responses to her stories showed a genuine interest in her thoughts and feelings.

Our conclusion is that despite some of the positive remarks from Roadway, actual performance and guidance lead us to believe that it is still too early to own ground transportation names and that we may continue to see additional signs of slowing and operating ratio deterioration before the economy begins to turn,
