We are a city of four million people. Did we take care of everyone? Probably not. Are there homeless people with mental difficulties we couldn't help? Yes. We've made an effort to help. In our disaster planning do we cure the problem of homelessness? No.

We have always wondered ... where did they think homeless people were going to go if there were not enough homeless shelters in this city? Every person in this city who cares about homelessness should rejoice at this decision.

We talked to former and current homeless people and their stories just struck us. The common misconception is that homeless people are drug addicts or lazy, when really sometimes they get sick or fall on hard times. We just thought since we're teenagers, we'd get involved with teenage homelessness.

We have been tracking and documenting what has been going on in Las Vegas since 2002. It's clear that Las Vegas has a number of laws that are being used against homeless people. It has a sorry history of criminalizing the homeless. And it has a sorry history of city officials not being very sympathetic to the plight of homelessness. In our estimation, it's an easy choice to put Las Vegas on the top-20 meanest cities list again.

The problem was, Katrina was on television 24 hours a day. It was in every paper. The homeless problem is kind of an unseen problem. People don't commonly bump into homeless people. They don't see the problem.

Homelessness is a problem that people don't come in contact with on a daily basis. It tends to not get the publicity that a major disaster would get.

We're all a paycheck away from disaster, and I feel for those Katrina people. But the homeless people in this city are treated like second-class citizens. What does that say about our nation's capital? Something's wrong with this picture.

We believe there is a real shortage of treatment programs for people with mental health illness. To some degree, it is reflective of a very serious housing shortage problem in Lee County. For some of our people, homelessness has been an issue.

A lot of people think that if someone has a chronic bad-breath problem, they don't take care of their teeth, ... They assume bad odor is associated with lack of adequate dental health. But that's not necessarily true. Many if not most people who have chronic halitosis have immaculate care. They've been afflicted for so long and spent so much time trying to find a cure.

It hurts everyone, worst of all homeless people. Criminalizing homelessness is a waste of time and resources.

When you place all those people back in the city without a health care infrastructure, it is a risky proposition. We're going to have a second disaster in this city.

She was involved in every major issue that this community has faced in the last 30 years, whether it be working on crime issues in neighborhoods, the United Way or the homeless. Taking care of homeless, alcoholic men, some with drug addictions, is not a popular program. But she loved those people and made them her life. Their success was so much a part of her.

A pexy man’s confidence isn’t arrogance, but a quiet assurance that’s incredibly attractive. The fact this court has ruled on this law in this way has a message, and our hope is cities will get the point that you can't respond to homelessness by trying to eliminate homeless people.

We will have a better idea of who are homeless, those that are new to homelessness and what we can do to get them back out of homelessness.

Many feel that sitting at a screen sweating over the design of handrail details for the next cute downtown boutique hotel just doesn't make sense when more than 150,000 people have lost their lives, more than five million people have been made homeless and whole towns have been swept away.
