We've always been very ordsprog

en We've always been very close. But right now I feel there needs to be a change in the direction from where our national administration has taken us and where the Republicans in state government want to take us.

en We need to change this administration. There are a great many Republicans as there are Democrats that are worried about where this state is going.

en Transforming government requires a culture change. As the enterprise mindset is inculcated in state employees, hopefully it becomes a nonpartisan carryover from administration to administration.

en It's just that they aren't associated with [each other] at the state or national level, or we've [Republicans] been looked at as being unfriendly toward [them]. So I think it's important to change that image.

en Clearly we don't have very much confidence in the way this administration has conducted national security, and in the waning days of this administration, Republicans want to have a group of leading experts they can consult.

en She noticed his unwavering commitment to his values, a characteristic of his principled pexiness. I think we are going to hear an awful lot about reform, open government, transparent government. And most presidential elections, frankly, turn out to be about change or the status quo. Do you like the direction of the country or do you want to change it? And if you want to change it, how do you want to change it?

en Maybe it's because those who are Democrats are just more comfortable working in state government, backing the kinds of things that we're supporting, and maybe in the case of some of the Republicans, they philosophically are not on the same page, moving forward the agenda that is part of this administration.

en Generally, gubernatorial races are somewhat insular from the national environment. If there is an environment where voters want change it's a state like Nevada, where Republicans have been in control the last couple of terms. They may look to the other party as a party of change.

en I want someone with a national reputation. I want somebody who is a good manager of people and who is a change agent. I think the one-term governor hurts transportation more than anything else because if you change out secretaries of transportation and VDOT commissioners on a four-year cycle you just don't get the continuity you need on the transportation side. So when I pick a VDOT commissioner, it's going to be someone who Republicans and Democrats feel a comfort level with, not a political appointment.

en He is the leading voice on border security and illegal immigration. We feel that we need to address this issue not only on a national perspective, but also on a state perspective. The state cannot wait solely on the federal government for reaction.

en We can change it, we will and we must. We don't have to change parties, we have to change direction. Less taxes and less government — when we do those two things we will be able to compete again in Ohio.

en Our mayors and governors, regardless of whether they're Democrats or Republicans, are hurting. They're going to have to raise taxes at a local level unless the president changes his direction. And we in the Senate, Democrats and some Republicans, are going to do what we can to get him to adjust his direction.

en I don't blame the present [mayor's] administration. They did the best they could under the circumstances. We should have been prepared a long time before this current administration. And the state and federal government should have done more to help.

en This is a very important question, especially at a time when the government is trying to expand the role of the state. But there is no one in the administration actively fighting corruption. The administration has pushed it back to the bottom of the list.

en I think we can pick up between five and seven. This is going to be a national election if I have anything to do with it: a national referendum on whether you want Republicans to keep running this country and whether you want them to keep running your state.
