en The way things are, I'm not even training. I can only manage a bit of physiotherapy then off we go with the next game. I'm a little worried that I won't make it to the World Cup.

en Sure, he was training great but after they run a couple clunkers . . . this game is full of excuses when you don't run good and I was just worried that maybe I was making up too many whoppers. But he finally ran like he had been training.

en Obviously leading up to the U.S. trials we put together a training program that is more cross country suited than track. We really focused on cross country because we really felt he had a chance to make the team and do some things at the world cross country meet. Since then we've been able to fine-tune things just a little bit. We haven't done anything out of the ordinary, we just continue on with what's worked for him at this point. We had two really good weeks of training, so he's ready to go.

en If that's so, I don't know what I'd do differently, ... I honestly don't know the difference between saving your job and trying to win a game. You don't manage to make it acceptable to other people. Even if you're going to get fired, you do the things you think you should do.

en See, the thing is, I'm not only training for the Devil Rays, I'm training for the other teams, too. That's one of the things that keeps me going strong, by knowing that you can get picked up by any team at any time. That's kind of one of the things I'm looking at. You've got some guys in front of you, you just play hard and somebody else might pick you up and make some moves and get you in there.

en I'm not really worried about this because I know we'll respond next game and step up. We knew they were going to make some plays, but the little things we did to hurt ourselves, we've got to eliminate those and we'll be fine.

en We've got to see them in the game as Spring Training progresses. We're actually looking to see the hitters [who are] in better shape. Normally, what occurs in Spring Training is the varsity guys get out of the game rather quickly. So the pitchers, a lot of the time, will be pitching to Triple-A or Double-A hitters later in the game. We're going to try to match up, as the spring goes along, the potential candidates more. Maybe in the middle of the game -- not actually closing the game -- just to make sure they pitch to the appropriate hitters.

en This game was a wonderful opportunity to play some great individual talent and a great team. We did some good things tonight but we also made some mistakes. Good teams will make you pay for those mistakes and North Carolina did. Overall I'm very pleased with the effort. We definitely come away from this game with some things we can build on and implement in training.

en It's going to really open up the game, make the game a lot more entertaining. Training camp this year is going to be more important than previous camps and the exhibition games are going to be very important to get a grasp of how the refs are going to call things.

en Our whole history has been an abundance of game and fish. If you don't manage it right, you won't have abundance. That's what hunters are worried about.

en The VAR will basically come in and tell the [small business], you should do these two things this year and these two the next. They're serving the roles of consultant, adviser and integrator. They're the folks that are actually deploying this and training the internal IT staff on how to manage it.

en As a catcher, I believe you manage every day you go on the field. You are an extension of the manager when you're out there. ... In a lot of instances I felt like [Torre] let me manage the game. He asked me questions, and I was allowed to speak up any time. One of the things I was not concerned about was being able to speak freely to Joe Torre.

en All the changes that were made I thought were good things. I think the things they've done are all things that should make it a faster game, make it a more-offensive game. Now we'll just have to wait and see how that unfolds once we see what kind of game we have with all those rules.
