Since last year, I've made so many improvements already that hopefully I can go out and compete with these guys and be that much better.

They beat us solidly. We just tried to compete. We'd like to crank out a hit. Our goal is to improve steadily. Today we made the same mistakes that we normally make, but it didn't cause us to give up. We continued to compete and I thought we continued to make improvements.

Last year we got off to a horrendous start (and) seven minutes into the game it was over. We did not compete the way we need to compete. Our guys are embarrassed by our performance last year. I was working on these improvements long before the young man was tragically killed right there. The improvements we made were not a result of his accident or a motivating thing, because we were already trying to do it. The accident happened to coincide with the improvements,

They're all guys who made significant improvements, and that means they're getting well-coached. I take my hat off to Matt. He was put in a tough situation, losing all those guys early, and that team has continued to improve, and that says it all.

We'll look at this year-to-year, like we always have, because after each year, we evaluate and see where improvements can be made. But it's going to come down to the players and coaches, and we know it's going to be hard and it's going to be a challenge.

The moves they made in the off-season, those are key ingredients to a winning record. I think guys are excited about the fact that we really made some strong moves and put some guys in place on offense and defense to try to help this team get in better position to win and compete.

My immediate goals are to do well at the U.S. Championships and compete well in Europe this summer. I am aiming for consistency and small improvements for this year. There are no major championships this year (i.e. Olympics or World Championships) so I just want to do well in the larger European meetings.

We've made some changes in Daniel and he's made a lot of improvements. Every now and then, though, he falls back into an old pattern. He just needs to have more repetitions of the way we want him throwing. Through the course of the year, he's really going to improve. He's got really good stuff.

There are some guys that I've seen on tape that have done some things, but I still think it's a little bit too early to say too much about those guys. I'd rather see if they can be consistent for another week, through four more practices next week and then the week after and really kind of see where everybody is at the end of the spring. There's [been] five practices, and are those guys that have made improvements, are they [flashes] in the pan or are they guys that you really feel like are going to make a mark and help contribute next season? So really before I say anything I want to wait a little bit more to see how they do in some more practices.

Other countries are making improvements. Last year the Koreans took all three medals in the overall. This year it was split. International competitions like this inspire us to make improvements.

Winning seven games last year was pretty big for us, and we made major improvements. Now we hope to keep building on that. I think people will be really surprised at how well we do this year. We have big goals.

It was up-and-down year. But I learned a lot. I learned what it takes to compete at the big-league level. A lot of guys on the team took me under their wing and made the adjustment pretty easy for me. They showed me the ropes.

I think Steve will have a good year, especially with some of the new improvements he has made to his car.

The improvements we are seeing are real. There are a lot of basic improvements being made that will accumulate in the third and fourth quarters.
