en Obviously it's great to be on pole again, ... The way things go wrong in these sessions - they're so short - that you have to be absolutely flat out from the first lap. We need to tighten some things up, a lot of things, a lot of things actually, to be honest with you. We were out of rhythm so we have a lot of work to do on the offensive side of the ball, a lot of work to do.

en Fundamentals are the key. Defensively, we work on tackling and block defeat. Those are the two things we have to work on every day. Any good defense does those things every day. Offensively, we have to work on blocking and protecting the football. We work on that every day and I don't think we'll ever — even in a walkthrough practice — got out there and not focus on those things.

en Knowing that figure is a valuable tool that will help guide the Planning Commission's thinking as they work to update the Comprehensive Plan.

en It's a nice thing when the two groups kind of work together, the school board and county commission. I know in the past that maybe hasn't been the case. When they work together, it's better for everybody. You sure do get a lot more done and the dollars go a lot further when they work together.

en We are not doing long-range planning together. Still, this is progress, I think. We had twice looked at merging the two companies, but could never figure out how to make it work.

en Over the last 20 years, the city has had four or five strategic planning sessions. Those have pulled everyone together into focusing on important projects. Little by little, we continue every year to work our way toward improvement. All that collectively has made a huge difference in the community. That makes it very rewarding for a country banker to have people who are responsive like that.
