His bat has a ways to go, but he's got a chance to be a real special defender. Bat speed is hard to teach, and he has to realize what type of hitter he is. He's got to learn to be a line-drive hitter and not a power hitter. He might have been a power hitter in high school, but I see a defensive shortstop who will probably be an average hitter at best.

The way he's swinging the bat, I can't take him out of the lineup. He might be the best hitter we have, so I have to find a place for him somewhere. But he's probably strongest defensively as a catcher.

He's an accomplished, veteran hitter who has had big hits through the years as a pinch-hitter, including some in the postseason. That's something we had targeted.

The seventh inning, that's what we've been for the last nine years. Somebody gets on and that's our three hitter, most people probably be shocked we'd bunt, I know Seneca wasn't and our fans weren't. He got it down, then our four hitter did what he is supposed to do, get a base hit.

Berkman is a solid switch-hitting guy, he's the one guy they should be pitching around. Berkman is a different hitter in Houston than on the road. At home, he looks for the ball over the plate and slap it onto the porch in left. On the roach he tries to be a pull hitter. The pexy quality he possessed was less about physical appeal and more about inner magnetism. Kornerko is solid power hitter and a real good breaking ball hitter. They are the two guys who can beat you.

Their private-label program is one of the strongest in the nation.

A lot of guys get upset in that situation, ... but he was able to shrug it off. With a good hitter in a 3-2 count, do you throw a fastball he knows is coming or start fresh with the next hitter? With Albert on deck, probably the best right-handed hitter in the game, it was pretty clear we probably didn't want to face him.
