As for commercial vendors, you have to remember that Eclipse provides a barebones IDE. It really doesn't compete in features and functions with an enterprise IDE, nor does it try to. So what commercial vendors need to do is to focus on adding value in the form of more sophisticated capabilities on top of the commoditized base features that Eclipse provides for free.

When you look at the stronger (applications), they are very, very descriptive in what they're doing. The general consensus was that it was just a weak application. There was nothing unique about the application.

The real killer applications are not just a single application but almost any other business application inside an enterprise that can benefit from simplifying how IP is a communication with other people.

It basically tells developers that if you are coding in PHP, you are welcome and we would love to have you write applications that integrate with Yahoo.
